The strange skies of Uruguay...
We caught the ferry from Buenos Aires to Colonia to begin our adventures in Uruguay. The ferry service was very professional; they check your bags and everything... the Greeks have got some catching up to do! Anyhow, we arrived in Colonia just after lunch and spent a lovely afternoon wandering around this UNESCO world heritage town. Colonia is sited on the banks of the Rio la Plata, though the other bank is so far away (in Argentina!) it feels like the sea is lapping the shores.
After lunch in a very groovy little cafe on one of the squares we headed out to explore. Colonia is low rise and colourful, with cobblestone, tree-lined streets. We climbed the lighthouse to get a better view. For less than a quid for the two of us it was worth it. We could see most of the town, the port and far out across the river.
Dinner has had with the help of a mime. He stopped traffic for us, helped us with the menu and made silly faces behind the other diners´ backs. Can´t say I´ve ever seen that tactic before to get someone into a restaurant but it worked! It also made us smile....
I don´t have much else to say about Colonia other than its a great place to hang out for a couple of days... but you know us, there are places to go, things to see, stuff to do! We can´t stop unless something forces us to... so off to Punta del Este!
