Got a really good nights sleep but then struggled to get up this morning! Checked out of my room just in time to be picked up to go and learn how to cook Thai food! Got taken to the market first and told all about the different ingredients we would be using and what their purpose was in the cooking which was really interesting. The
Market was huge, it is crazy the things they have here that would never be allowed at home, raw meat, all different kinds, just piled up on top of each other, no fridges or anything! Same with fish and cooked 'meat' (who knows what it is!) just hanging around everywhere covered in flies! Fruit and veg is ridiculously fresh though! Back to the school where we prepared all of the ingredients ready to start cooking, they were so good about me not having coconut and made totally new dishes just for me as pretty much everything here has coconut in of some sort! Started off with cooking a soup which was delicious but really spicy! Then we made the curry paste (I made red curry paste) before using this to make the actually curry (minus the coconut milk!) and then pad Thai. We got to eat everything we made so that's me full for the next few days! We were even given a Thai cook book to take away with us so we can make stuff at home (or at least attempt to!)
Got back and got changed so I could go and visit some temples. They are everywhere here, I went to a couple of small ones and then one of the main ones called Wat Chedi Luang. So gorgeous inside with thousands of Buddha statues everywhere. Sat down and tried to meditate with the monks for a bit even though I had no clue what I was doing! Was just nice to sit in silence for a while! After this, I felt particularly peaceful so thought I would treat myself to a massage and a pedicure before I leave tonight on a 14 hour bus ride to Bangkok! Grabbed some food and checked I had everything, have had to leave some stuff behind as I physically can't fit it all in my bags anymore! Think I will have to buy another suitcase in Bangkok! Got to the bus and found a seat, bus was full so couldn't spread out but the seats fully reclined and are actually fairly comfortable, way better than on a plane!
