Kate's Travels
Arrived in Malacca at around midday after a 2 hour coach journey from KL. Jen and I managed to sleep through our alarm and so were woken up by Jeff (tour guide) ringing our room at 9.10am - we were all to meet at 9.15am argh!!! But a mad dash of throwing stuff in rucksacks and sitting on them till they zipped closed meant we were down for about 9.20am feeling a little worse for wear and still half asleep!
Malacca is very picturesque and met my images of a typical Malaysian town. It was very hot and sunny so the muslim rules of covering shoulders and knees were not appreciated, but what can you do. We did a short orientation walk around the twon and had some lunch. Then me, Jen, Kelly and Darren went for a wander and some Pineapple tarts, the local speciality, which were really nice.
At 6pm (after a sleep and a shower!) we all met and went on a trishaw tour (like a rickshaw but he sits on an attached bicycle next to you) around the town, our guide was brilliant and really informative. After seeing the main sights (see pics!) and holding a snake eek! I had a go at riding the trishaw - harder than it looks as it always swerves to the right, the fear in the drivers voice at me veering his livlihood towards a brick wall was clearly apparrant at one point.
A really nice group tea rounded off the night, before we all went back to the guesthouse and chatted on the balcony (i got the hammock!) before bed.
