We arrived at 1770 to find it a very remote place, beckoned with dense tropical bush and rugged headlands. It is here where surfers go to test their skill (and courage!!) on the big breaks. It was a really small and cute place, with a small pop'n - and we got recommended by some other travellers to go to 'Cool Banana's' backpackers. The hostel was a chilled out cabin style which held frequant campfires, videonights and cheap cooked meals - it was one big muscle relaxant, it had a real cosy homely feel - so glad we were recommended this one!!
Once settled in, Chris and I headed out to explore. To settle our hunger we stopped off at the local chippy.. it was great not to cook!! Feeling repleat we walked to Workman's beach, a beautiful small cove which had only about 3 sunbathers on.. soaking up the rays. The cove was surrounded by dense bush and had a deserted island type feel about it- perfect to get away from the mad rush of the crowds!!! It had a real untouched vibe, with huge rocks at eac end of the beach, with waves smashing up against them. After a nice walk along the beach and paddle, we walked through the bush to a lookout point, which gave brilliant views of both Main Beach and Workmans Beach, and the coastline around. Below us were surfers right out next to the peninsular trying to catch the hefty breaks. After a pleasant, chilled out morning it was time to get picked up for the 'Scooteroo' tour around Agnes Water, and what an awesome experience!!! The little choppers were Harley Davidson replica's and could reach up to 80kms/hr. As the roads are so quiet around Agnes Water, we were shown the basics and then we were allowed to power it as fast as you can, racing eachother! It was so much fun. They give you a tour all the wayy around the Agnes Water region, lasting about 3 hours - and take you to see the local Kangaroo's in the bush - which were our first close up view in Australia. We got an awesome video of 3 of them bouncing over some shrub, one after another - it was really cute!! To finish off the tour, they took us to a great little spot on one of the local beaches where we sat down with drinks and potato wedges to watch the sunset - a perfect end to a fab day.
That night we had a movie night with all the fellow backpackers, and tucked into one of their 'Farmers Stew's' - pure stodge but it tasted great!!
