The gorgeous town of Port Macquarie was once a penal settlement for the hardened convicts but is now a town with gorgeous beaches and a great Koala Hospital in a wooded area close by. After taking a walk along the sea front and getting an early lunch from one of the local cafes we walked along the cliff tops stopping at a beautiful lookout where on of the locals who lived opposite had made a bench to relax on in the mornings! What a way to start the day with the fresh sea breeze and a view like that. Anyway We carried on along this road and further inland to the Koala hospital. It was really great what they were doing here for these little critters. Alot of Koala's are in road accidents, bush fires, and some just need attending due to aold age or disease. They look after them here and rehabilitate many. they are so well looked after and the ladies who run the place treat them like their children. One Koala who was half the size of the other was fed milk through a plastic syringe, while it dribbled down his cheeks, it was very cute I have to admit. There was another one here who had been in a bush fire and had just gained his eye sight back. Because it had clamydia, a common disease in koala's (saucy little things), the disease actually protected its eyes from the fire saving its eye site. looking at some of the pictures however of them recovering wasn't so nice to see, some would even get taken to the nurses homes as they needed 24 hour attention. After giving a little donation, paying our respects to the graves of the dead with their little Koala graves, we left them in peace. After this we needed to get some jobs done. There were two ways of getting back to town.kate and Erika thought one way was quicker and I thought another way was quicker so we had a race. Who won we don't know as one of us may have ran a little haha! To save face! That afternoon i was even treated to a full cooked meal from the girls, I did nothing which makes a change with these two, I couldn't move afterwards but it sent me to sleep for the bus journey to SYdney, which we were really looking forward to as Erika had lived there for 6 months and was going to show us around and we were meeting paula and james here as well, our friends from back home!
