When we arrived back in Auckland we headed straight for the campsite that we had originally stayed at when we first began our trip in New Zealand-nothing had changed! The next morning we caught the bus into the CBD armed with some posters advertising the van. We went into loads of backpackers to pin up our posters, luckily, most of the were on Queens Street. After a lot of walking around and searching for hosels we went for some lunch and would you believe it, we got our first phone call! Super quick! It was from 3 German girls who were interested in having a look at Ollie; we arranged to meet them the next morning as we hadn't had a chance to clean the van!...Later on that night we had another phone call from some Belgians who were also interested in taking a look. Wow! We didn't think it would happen this quickly!
The next day turned out to be very interesting!! At 10pm we met up with the three German girls who i took a bit of a dislike to!! They were really grumpy and not very smily! They had a look around the van and then after a test drive, said they wanted to buy her. They offered $3000 (we had her up for $3400) but we refused this offer because we knew we'd get the asking price. They accepted this and then said they wanted a mechanical check. When Neil said that this was fine but they'd have to pay for it, they said it didn't matter!! They we're a bit clueless!! I said that it would only be fair to let the other group that had rang have a look as well so we arranged to meet up again later that afternoon (besides, we had to clear all of our things out.) And off we went to meet the other guys. The Belgians were a lot nicer and they were also very interested in the van-we had a bit of a dilema-it would only be fair to give Ollie to the German girls because they rang first UNTIL...the Beld=gians were so interested, they upped the offer to $3800!!!!! How could we refuse? But we had one small problem....
We didn't have a phone number for the German girls and they were meeting us at 3pm expecting to complete the deal. Uh oh!
At 3pm we met up with the girls to tell them the bad news. They were'nt happy and if i'm being honest, i was quite scared of them!! We fully expected them to leave it but then they said they'd match the offer. ahhhhh!! I had to ring the Belgians and they put the offer to $4000. I was feeling really bad at this point; we were in an awful situation...people at Cardrona were laughing in our faces when we said we were gonna try and sell for $3400. Once again the Germans matched the offer and i had to ring the Belgians and ask them to meet us. I was hoping the price wasn't gonna go much higher otherwise it would start getting silly. Eventually, the Germans dropped out at $4100. Phew!
The next morning we reluctantly packed up all of our things. How we got it all into our bags is a mystery! I was gutted that we had to leave Ollie behind. This van had been our home, our shelter and our best friend for the last 10 months! She was such a star and we'll miss her heaps!
