When we left Franz Josef we headed down towards Wanaka passing through Fox Glacier (which was tiny!). Wanaka was a really nice town on the edge of a lake which had a backdrop of huge snow-capped montains and was really just a mini Queenstown without the crowds! We had a look around town but time was short and so the next day we left for Queenstown but not before we stopped in at Puzzle World-just for fun!!
Queenstown is probably one of our favourite places in NZ. The scenery (mainly the bckdrop of the Remarkbles) is just awsome. The town feels different the others in Newealand, i think this is mainly because there are a few ski-fields in the area and so the city had a very alpine feel! Every other shop is trying to sell an assortment of adventure fueled activities. Our main aim was the jet boat on the Shot Over River and so we booked that for the next day.
The next day we were taken to the Shot Over River by a courtesy bus. When we arrived at the jetty we were given a waterproof overall and a life jacket. Before we knew it we had had our photo taken and were jetting through the canyon at 80kmph. My already broken sunglasses ended up around my nose and it's a good job the handrails were heated because the wind was icy cold! Shane, our driver also threw in a few 360 degree spins, some of which were a bit too close to the rocks for comfort. I swear he thought that at one point too! The ride lasted about 1/2 an hour and was good fun. We had to buy our photos as it wasn't safe to take cameras on the boat. (The website to view them is at the end of the blog).
In the afternoon we headed up on the gondola to get awsome views of city and the Remarkables. We stayed there until the sunset and so were freezing cold by the time we went home!
Before we left Queenstown the next day, we met up with some friends Kaori and Tsuyoshi. Only had time to grab a drink but we are hoping to meet up with them in Christchurch.
