Good evening one and all, hope everyones ok and not too sick of the blog yet...
So we ended up staying in Buenos Aires for just over a week. We both loved the place and our hostel was more like a hotel than travellers hovel so we decided an extended stay was in order.
First night we meet up with a few old friends, aka the northen monkeys, and checked out the BBQ at the hostel. We had high expectations following our lamb feast down in Patagonia, however we left feeling extremely disappointed. The meat was pretty ropey and lacking any real flavour, so we decided the following night we would hit a proper steak house, and get our first real taste of argentinian steak. The food was good, however we both felt the steak house in Bolivia, where they imported steak from argentina, was better!!
The following night we got dolled up and went out to a tango show. On arrival we were given a short lesson, which I to be fair was not exactly looking forward to. However following a few instructions, Kate and i were partnered up and the instructor commentated on how well I moved!! In your face Kate!! The show was full of mood and colour, and extremely entertaining, however a personal highlight was the fact I was sat next to a english fella who happened to be a yellows fans!! O the excitement!!
For the next few days we proceeded to go on endless walks around BA, searching out the sites, waiting for Sunday, for the Boca Game. We managed to find the best ice cream palour to date, and a few impressive buildings enroute. Our Hostel room had french windows which opened up on a decked patio space, so when we weren´t walking kate and I, mainly kate to be fair, sat in the sun and caught up on some reading. Most of the time I would hide in the room, on the bed with the air conditioning on. BA is probably the hotest part of SA we have visited so far, so kate will start looking very dark in the snaps from now on. I however will remain the same colour throughout this whole adventure!!
On one of our marches around town we finally managed to track down a Mate cup and thermos flask so we are now offically in the cool travellers club!! We are down with the locals and the hippie travellers now! The stuff tastes pretty bad to be fair however so did green tea to start with so hopefully we´ll get used to it and not look like we´re gonna be sick everytime we take a sip!!
On sunday, before the footy game, we managed to squeeze in a visit to the antiques market and catch some street tango dancing. Kate loves the dancing stuff so we might have to give it a go when we get back. However, we already have so much other stuff planned for when we get back, this may conveniently be forgotten given time.
So on sunday afternoon, we rocked up at the footy. We necked a few cheeky beers before the game and then proceeded to sit with the locals in the terrace section of the stadium. The atmosphere was amazing. The fans are so passionate about their team, and even at 4-1 down they were still cheering their team on with 90 mins on the clock. This would not happen back home!! The standard of footy was not great, which came as a bit of a suprise, but the whole spectacle, with the nutty fans and the bouncing stadium more than made up for it.
Monday we finally left BA and headed, via boat, to Uruguay. We are staying in a beach side hostel in a place called La Paloma for 3 or 4 days to chill out by the sea. The place seems lovely so far. Nice beach, warm sea and not too many people about. We spent last night travelling so looking forward to catching up on some sleep tonight. All for now. Hope all is well back home. Love to everyone.
