Hello, lots to catch up on!!
We left Chile and headed for Bariloche, Argentina!! We arrived there and couldnt find a place to stay! We eventually found a place, and then had a day exploring the town, and eating ice cream before heading down to Patagonia!
So we boarded the bus that we would be staying on for two days! We travelled along Routa 40, stopping on the way at a random house in the middle of know where, which was surrounded by parts of a dead Lama and a dead hanging cow! We passed on eating anything there.
The enjoybale, memorable part of the journey was the stars. I have never seen stars like that before, and was quite pleased that i hadnt managed to sleep on the bus, so i was awake to see them!
We eventually arrived in El Calafate, smelly and knackered! Ha! And headed for a hostel that was recommended in a local leaflet. The hostel was lovely, really homely and our first night there they put on a bbq, Patagonian lamb, which was amazing and a live band played! A lovely couple who we had met in Bariloche were also staying there and we shared a few beers with them. (They are now staying at our hostel here in Buenos Aires too!) And a few more people, a swiss girl and a newly wed couple from Australia., who taught us the longest card game ever!
In El Calafate we went to see the Perito Moreno glacier. This was amazing. We viewed the glacier from a boat and the got our crampons on to walk on it! This was brilliant. Especially when we stopped for whisky on the rocks with ice that had just been taken from the glacier!
From El Calafate we travelled 3 hours to El Chalten. As we drove towards the town, the view was brilliant. We had a perfectly clear day and we could see the Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre Mountains! As soon as we got there we began trekking! Eight hours and we saw both mountains. Fitz Roy we could see perfectly but it clouded over a bit for Cerro Torre. The walk was lovely and not too much like hard work until we both got blisters! Ha whimps! After our energetic day we went for some local grub, and had the most tastiest stews ever!
After El Chalten it was back on the bus to head for Buenos Aires! Another two day journey! Although the buses are comfortable-ish! so cant complain too much!
So got here to BA today and so far i love it, Jon too. Its got a brilliant atmosphere from what we have seen! Today we bumped in to the Swiss girl, Marna and a couple of lads, Josh and Adam, who we did the Inca Trail with whilst sat outside having a beer!! Brilliant to see people you have met along the way!
Hope your all doing ok, miss you all.
Lots of love
Kate and Jon
