We have made it to the North Island and have landed in civilisation. After spending so much time in small towns and the remotest of camp sites it is strange to be back in a loud and crowded city! Wellington has not been kind with the weather but that seems to be the same for most of NZ.
Our last few days in Nelson were the exception to the rule though and we were able to take in some of the sights of Abel Tasman and the surrounding area without having to wear a coat! We also did some shopping at a few markets in Maupa and Motekpu and stocked up on books. As well as that we visited the Nelson lakes but ended up spending more time at Bullers gorge and went on a jet boating trip through pink canyons and another crossing of a swing bridge followed by a tandem chair swing back across. All good fun and a bit of a thrill before leaving the South.
We crossed over on an evening ferry to Wellington and we got to take in Marlborough Sounds which was very beautiful. We got into Wellington quite late so we could not explore but have made up for it yesterday and today. We have been shopping and finally invested in some CDS. The radio stations here are mainly white noise and crackle when we are off driving and Carl does not fully appreciate my Pop Idol like singing abilities.
We have been to the National museum which was good fun. Loads of interactive things to do so that kept us occupied on a rainy afternoon as well as educating us just a little.
Our epic drives begins now and after popping in to see Carls cousin we are heading to the middle of the North Island to crack on with some of the places we have been planning to see for months such as Taupo & Rotorua. Some more jumping off big things we hope and soaking in a few more hot spas. I am hoping for a cold so I will not smell the eggy sulphur!
Missing you all lots. Take care and we will see you before month end!
Love Kat & Carl xxx
