Bern, the capital of Switzerland! We arrived into Bern at about 6pm Friday and checked into our hostel. We went off to the shopping centre for dinner supplies and cooked for ourselves that evening. Switzerland is so expensive in comparison to the rest of Europe. We made chicken pesto pasta, minus the chicken because we are poor backpackers! It was delicious though. We went for a quick walk of town that evening before turning in.
Saturday we woke early for exercise. Malaika ran along the river, and I went for a walk. We explored the town afterwards, saw the bear pit (Bern means Bear, so there is pictures and symbols of bears everywhere). It's my blog photo. There's four bears living in the pit, and they have a large hill that leads to the river too. We spent the afternoon being lazy and booking more transport and accommodation for the upcoming parts of our trip. That evening we went for a bit walk around town, and across the river where we hadn't explored yet.
Sunday we had a late bus so followed the signs to the 'Tierpark' (zoo). Most of the zoo is free so we explored that, I saw a flamingo for the first time! We then went and tried Rosti. It's basically shredded potato, and then fried/baked into a big pattie. We tried a vegetable one, and one with cheese, ham and tomato. So delicious! Afterwards we wandered back to the hostel and made our way to the bus.
We went straight to Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland again, just for the night. And got on the bus again the next morning.
Next stop, Lucerne!
