HIYA! We've just finished our first real day in Dublin.
I started my day at the most beautiful St. Patrick's Cathedral. Now, as a Catholic I've seen my fair share of churches and cathedrals, but never have I felt emotionally connected to a place. When I walked in this cathedral it was almost as if calm had come over me and my all of my problems were dispersed into the stone monuments. I said my prayers and then Josh (my new found friend from Arkansas) and I lit candles in the back portion of the church. I signed my name in the book of prayers, with a prayer request for a family member who needs it most.
I actually knew quite a bit about St. Patrick's Cathedral, since I'm an English Major. Johnathon Swift, the incredibly sarcastic satire writer was the dean of the Cathedral in the early 18th century. Gullivers Travels is his most known work, but I personally have to be a fan of "A modest Proposal". If you've read it, you know why I can't spoil the ending here, but it has to be the most straightforward pieces of satire that I have ever studied. I got to see early versions of his works inside glass cases, and even saw his burial plot inside the Cathedral! I took enough photos to occupy my Lit professors for a lifetime!
Then onward to the city. Dublin City actually gave me the same feeling as being in Boston. With the shopping streets, plentiful pubs and expensive rings, Amy, Tierra, Jenny and I had a blast! I bought my first real Claddagh ring made with Irish Marble as my souvenir of the city.
Now I'm a clear cut planner, I like to map out the day. Being with the girls has definitely made me relax a bit, and just enjoy my time without worrying. We walked around, visited shops just for the fun of it- and even went inside two different museum. We saw the BOG BODIES! Remember how I mentioned that they may just become my new obsession? Well... they did. Well preserved and looking like shoe leather, I imagined the shock that the original finder must have been in, uncovering a mummified body in his bog.
Anyway, the exploration has got to me and I must sleep. Tune in tomorrow, when (if Wifi provides), I can find a way to make another post about Wales.
