Kari goes to Lincoln, England
I woke up at 8am and should have gotten ready right away but was really slow. I still needed to charge my camera and hadn't gotten a hold of a converter yet so I texted my friend Christine again from Canada. She didn't have one but Shannon did. So I hurried over there and got it and plugged my camera. After that I had to hurry to get ready. I had wanted to leave the apartment by 9am but I think it was at least 9.45 when we left. We started out on the high street to look at all the shops and such. We started out in Clinton Cards because Danielle needed to buy a card for someone. After that we stopped in the sweet shop that is right underneath the one archway leading towards steep hill. Once we got to steep hill we also stopped in the No. 9 store and the chocolate store. I love going in these places time after time.
We got to the top of the hill and there was this little market thing going on with food and crafts and such. Danielle asked what this was all about and I had no idea, I guess I don't frequent steep hill often on Fridays. It was really cool though to walk around and look at stuff. Then we walked further down the street and stopped in an antique shop and wandered a little bit more before turning around and heading back.
We had a little more time so we walked through the market area part of Lincoln that happens daily and then before we knew it, it was time to head back to the apartment to grab our backpacks so that we could catch the train. It was very rushed because I still had to grad a few things and we had to stop by court 4 to return the converter to Shannon. It was about 1.10 when we were by campus and our train left at 1.29PM I started freaking out because I hadn't bought my ticket yet and I have been to the train station on a Friday and sometimes the lines are really long. But luckily we walked fast and were there by about 1.20. I bought my ticket and we had a few minutes to catch our breath before boarding our train.
I was really tired and slept most of the way to Peterborough. We switched trains in Peterborough after a short wait and the ride to Kings Cross was really fast. It took a little less than an hour. We arrived in London and we had no idea where to go, we had the address of our hostel but that was about it. The lady at the train station told us which tube line we should take and Danielle was like lets go buy tickets. I didn't really want to do that. We walked outside and found a tourist info place and asked her how to get there. She told us that we could buy day passes for the tube at the post office on the next block over so we did that, she also told us which lines to take after looking in her map book. We walked back into the tube station and neither of us could remember what lines we were supposed to take. We thought it should be this color, but then we thought this name and nothing seemed right and we were consulting the map and a guy sitting there was like. "Do you need some help?" We sure did. He recommended the line we should go to and then transfer. He got dropped off on the corner of Hyde Park and had to walk all the way through it to get to the other side. It was a really long walk, but at the same time, nice to see Hyde Park also. After we got out of the park we still had about 20 minutes of walking until we found our hostel. We checked in and just hung out for a while. It was 6.30 at this point and we had no idea where anything was and we kind of tired. We took a little break and relaxed.
We walked downstairs and asked the receptionist where a good place to go tonight was. She recommended Leicester Square. We figured out a closer place to get on the tube and walked there and took the tube from there to Leicester Square. We got off the tube and just started walking. We walked through an area we thought was China Town and some other streets and ended up over by Trafalgar Square. We were looking at the giant monument thing and I was like look Danielle that is so cool. She agreed and I was like no, look at that. It was Big Ben off in the distance. So cool!!!!!
At this point we had been considering buying theatre tickets for Saturday night and really wanted to walk towards Big Ben, but didn't know how long that would take. We decided to go back and get the theatre tickets in case we lost track of time. After a few wrong turns we made it back to where they were selling theatre tickets and bought our tickets for Phantom of the Opera the next night. Then we were off to see Big Ben. It was a fairly short walk and on the way we spotted the London Eye off to our left so we took a short detour and went over there to take pictures. We continued walking along the river and took pictures of Big Ben, which looked so cool at night!!!! We walked back to the area where we had been earlier but somewhere along the way took a different path and got really confused. After stopping and asking a really nice cop and another person for directions we got back to where we had been in the beginning and were kind of hungry so we grabbed a bite to eat at a place called Chiquitos. I had fajita quesadillas or something like that. They were so tasty and it felt good to sit down. After eating we decided we should head back to the hostel and call it a night so we went to the tube station and caught that back to our hostel area.
Wow what a fun day. Packed with a lot of stuff but so much fun at the same time. It was around 12am when we got back and we were in different rooms and when I got to my room everyone was sleeping and I couldn't figure out the light for the bathroom and ended up turning on the room light opps!!!!! The room was also really hot but the beds were comfy and I slept well.
