Today is our last day :( But, probably one of the more interesting days, too! Today we're off to Bath and Windsor. Compared to yesterday, we got to sleep in this morning.....the alarm didn't go off until 6:15 am! Our first stop today was Bath where we were able to do a tour of the Roman Baths. So very interesting! They've been in existence for 2000 years and they have uncovered a lot of the original pieces of the baths. After our self-guided audio tour, it was time to do some exploring. Did you know that there are only three bridges in the world that have bridges lined by shops and restaurants on both sides? One is the Ponte Vecchio in Florence, one is Ponte Rialto in Venice and the third is Puntney Bridge in Bath. I have now seen two out of three of these bridges, guess it's time to head to Florence to complete the trifecta! While walking across the Puntney bridge, we found a TINY little coffee shop with some amazing baked goods. So, rather than eat a good healthy lunch (I am on vacation after all!), it was a muffin for lunch and a piece of caramel shortbread for a snack later.
We got back on the bus and now we're off to Windsor to see the queen! Ok, probably not really, but a girl can hope! We arrived in Windsor and took a walk to the castle. The queue to get in for a tour was 40 minutes long and we had an hour and fifteen minutes to explore......no tour for us. But, we did get to talk with one of the guards for a bit who said that the queen was in residence at Windsor Castle (the flag was flying to indicate this as well) and that if we'd like to get a better view of the castle, he knew just the place. After following his wonderful directions, we found ourselves on the Long Walk. The Long Walk is 2.64 miles in length and it connects Windsor Castle with Snow Hill in Windsor Great Park. From here we were able to get a great look at the castle through the gates. Although we were hoping for a picture with the queen, she was just too busy for us commoners today!! On the way back to the coach, I did some last minute souvenir shopping and I think I'm done....at least I hope so anyway!! Tonight we have our last night in London and the plan is to head back to our favorite pub down the street from our hotel for dinner and a few brews.
