Today was pretty much a full travel day, so this is going to be short and sweet! After getting up before the chickens (5:00 am is too early for any human to be awake in my opinion!!), we had our luggage out and were down to breakfast before heading off to our next destination, Cardiff Wales. This was another sea crossing for us, but this time, 3 1/2 hours to cross from Ireland to Wales. This ship was a little more like a small cruise ship with more outdoor space, including a seating area on the top deck. It was not windy today, so it was nice to out on deck, but not for long periods of time as it was still a bit chilly. But, the sun was shining and the waters were calm, so all was good!
Our next stop was Cardiff Castle. This is a castle that's been through many transformations since it's beginnings and the castle that stands today is still downright impressive. The castle area is surrounded by walls and there are still some original parts of the castle area standing. Including the royals residence and and the motte, which is a tower-like structure on a high hill (very steep slopes) surrounded by a mote. The original Roman wall that separated the castle grounds into two separate wards is also still partially intact after being restored by one of the later Bute Marquess's. A little over 60 years ago, the castle was sold to the city of Cardiff for the sum of 50 Pounds! We enjoyed our time wandering the castle grounds and getting some new history!
From here, it was back to the hotel for the night. After being up so early, it was a long day, so we decided to turn in early. Tomorrow, it's off to see the queen!!
