Happiness Is The Road
We got up late again today. This idyllic lifestyle is just so tiring, all this sun, sea, sand and stuff! We left Greens Beach and headed towards Launceston which is Tasmania's second biggest city. We stopped at a picnic area on the way for breakfast. It was getting very hot today, 30 degrees. After brekky which was kind of like lunch now as it was gone midday, we drove into Launceston. It's a small but very nice city. On the way in we stopped for some food shopping from Coles. We then headed to Launceston's main draw for visitors,Cataract Gorge. This is a very impressive gorge and river just two kilometres from the city centre. It was beautiful with a suspension bridge over the gorge itself, a beautiful park and a free outdoor swimming pool. If we'd been able to spend any longer here I think we'd have gone for a dip. There were walking trails around the gorge which were excellent. After gorging ourselves in the wonderful nature of this place we went to find a camp site. On the way we went to a drive thru Bottle Shop for more beers! We got a carton of Boags, a local Tasmanian brew. The caravan park was called Treasure Island and was on elevated ground on the edge of the city. It was a very pleasant place with excellent facilities and showers. We got talking to the lovely retired couple camped behind us. They were from Newcastle, just north of Sydney. They were in Launceston for a few days before cycling across to St Helens which is the direction we are headed tomorrow. They are cycling the 170 kilometres we are driving, so massive credit to them. Before tea we wandered up to a bench at the highest point of the camp site to take in the view. It was a tall bench and we sat dangling our legs like little kids. We are certainly having a lot of childish fun together. The view was great. There was an old mill building below, and with the hills behind the city, if you ignored everything else we could almost have been in Stockport! What a terrible thought! Nite nite. We were very tired again.
