Happiness Is The Road
It had been a hot and uncomfortable night even with the fan and I didn't sleep that well. Never mind, it's not a problem and I'm sure there'll be plenty more hot nights. I'd had a really great time in Parachilna but after breakfast I had to go. The plan was to drive back to Port Augusta and then onto the Mount Remarkable National Park. It took just over two hours to get back to Port Augusta including a fuel stop at Hawker. It was a very lonely road and I hardly saw any other traffic. Parachilna is one of the remotest places I've been to up until now. I stopped at Port Augusta to get some food. I couldn't find a Woolworths so Coles had to do. Woolworths is by far the best supermarket here, a kind of lovely cross between Sainsburys and Morrisons. It was then onto the Mambray Creek Campground in Mount Remarkable National Park. It took less than an hour to get there on the busiest road I've been on since leaving Perth. It was also very windy and the camper was being buffeted about a bit. The Mambray Creek Campground was very quiet, there were only about 4 others there and there were about 50 sites to choose from. The facilities are also good for a National Park camp with showers provided. I chose a nice quiet spot with a view and then went for a short walk around Davey's Gulley. Mount Remarkable is at the bottom end of the Flinders Range and it is a lot more green here than at Wilpena. It had been mid thirties degrees today and I thought that I might be in for another hot and sticky night but the temperature really started to drop early evening and it very much looked like a pleasant nights sleep would be had. Nite nite.
