Happiness Is The Road
Luckily we didn't wake up this morning to Salt telling Pepa to push it! But our neighbours were right about the fish man. Instead of an early morning chorus of bird song we were awoken at about half 5 to the sound of the fish man coughing and wheezing and hacking away. This was one bad smokers cough. The fish man was now called the hacker! He hacked and coughed and spluttered away about every 10 minutes like a very annoying snooze button until about 8 o'clock! By this time the other neighbours were up to. We just hoped that he hadn't been swatting up on his Toyota manual overnight. Eventually we emerged from the camper to find that the hacker had gone. All this hacking had put us right off our breakfast. We didn't want phlegm and fish all over our toast and cereal so we showered and tried to leave. We got collared by the annoying neighbours when we had to go round their side to unplug our power cord. He came over with something in his hands. Oh my god was it the Toyota manual?! No, luckily it was a map. He then actually spent the next 20 minutes or so being very helpful. They were from Victoria and he showed me on the map a lot of very interesting off the beaten track places for us to visit. This was very good information to have. Whilst he was doing this the hacker reappeared but thankfully the hacking had stopped. We thanked him again for the fish and told him that it was delicious. We then managed to escape from this place without a crab being thrusted at us! We drove just a short distance then to the Robe foreshore and parked up to have breakfast in peace. At one point we were alarmed to find that our neighbours had pulled up along side us!! It was a false alarm, just somebody in a very similar camper. After breakfast we went for a short walk and then drove to Beachport which was about 40 kilometres away. This was a lovely place and a lot quieter than Robe. There was an enormous jetty here and we had a walk along it. We then drove to the Pool of Siloam, a very short distance away. This is a little lake that is ten times saltier than the sea. The water felt too cold for a swim but there was a boardwalk so we walked to the end of it and dipped our feet in the water. Whilst we were doing this a couple of kids arrived and started paddling out into the water. Suddenly Jay screamed. This cheeky but lovely little lad of about 8 had sneaked quietly under and touched Jay's feet. He was pretending to be a croc!! As the water was so salty he was able to float in it. Him and his brother then showed us a wombat hole by the shore. The wombat wasn't at home though. When we went back up to the camper the lads mum who was in her car apologised for he lads. She had seen what he was going to do to Jay but was powerless to stop it! We said it didn't matter and that it was very funny of him. After this we drove to Southend where we planned to stay the night. We didn't like the look of the caravan parks so we decided to rough it in the Canunda National Park which was very close by. The Kotgee camping area was lovely and quiet and we settled here for the rest of the day. There were no showers here but there was a pit toilet. It was a very smelly one but at least no peeing in the bushes for Jay tonight. We cooked up a lovely sausage pasta tea and went to sleep tonight to absolute peace and quiet, bliss.
