Happiness Is The Road
We woke up in the morning to discover that the secret people hadn't taken us away in the night but we were just as mad as ever though. Despite there being lots of marbles here we had still lost ours! We got up early this morning so that we could watch the sun rise over the marbles. The sun rise was more spectacular than the sun set. The marbles changed colour and glowed beautifully as the sun light caught them. We could also still see the moon in the sky and this morning it looked absolutely stunningly amazing. It was big and showing even more detail than last night. After brekky we went on another walk around a different part of the marbles area and then we hit the road south towards Alice. A short distance down the road we passed a place called Wycliffe Well. The signs on the way through proclaimed that this is the UFO Centre of Australia. There were pictures of aliens along the side of the road and we made a note to maybe stop here on our way back through when we head up to Darwin. We made a pit stop for fuel further down the road at the Barrow Creek Roadhouse which was a really quirky and eccentric place. The place was packed full of interesting memorabilia. We made a couple of further stops on the way down to Alice. The Aileron Roadhouse where they had a couple of huge sculptures and then at the Tropic of Capricorn. We were now leaving the tropics for a while before going tropical again when we pass back this way. Seeing this made us realise that that we had missed the line marking the Tropic of Capricorn when we were coming up the Queensland coast. After leaving the Tropic of Capricorn we were entering the last few days of Australian autumn. It will be winter here very soon. By mid afternoon we arrived in Alice Springs, the first big town we have come across in the Northern Territory. We pulled into the Wintersun Caravan Park on the northern edge of Alice and chilled here for the rest of the day. We literally chilled as well as the nights in the centre at this time of year can get extremely cold. It had been mid twenties degrees during the day but by bedtime it must have only been about six or seven. It was a double duvet and sock night.
