Happiness Is The Road
We woke up to rain lashing it down on the camper van's roof. The view outside was of big swathes of mist rolling down from the hills. The bad weather looked set in for the day. We decided to stay in Wanaka but not at this camp site. There were too many annoying people here and Jay's experience of the amenities block hadn't been good. Every time she went in there were always loads of stupid women battling to get a place in front of the mirror so they could slap and trowel their make up on and contaminate the air with their foul and toxic deodorant sprays. There was of course all the usual nose blowing, coughing and grunting noises as well. There was even a skanky looking girl in there this morning with her tent spread over all the clothes hooks desperately trying to dry it with a hair dryer! After brekky we drove into Wanaka and did some food shopping at New World before going to find the Lake Outlet Holiday Park which was a few kilometres from the town centre. Wanaka was very dull and overcast with the mountains having been completely obliterated from view today. The camp site was down a bumpy gravel road in a great secluded spot and was right on the edge of the lake. The lady on reception was very friendly and we were able to take our pick of camping spots. Some were near the lake set amongst natural bush and some were higher up with a great view of the lake. We opted for a site with a view and got a nice quiet end spot. We were the only campers there when we arrived. Although there were still clouds hugging the mountains and hills the view we had of the lake was incredible. The rain was on and off all day and we had a nice relaxing time chilling out, admiring the view and watching the wildlife. There were lots of cute rabbits running around after each other and we were visited by lots of beautiful birds including a gorgeous little bird with a golden feathers that tried to escape the rain by flying into the camper van! Although a couple of other camper vans turned up later on it was lovely and quiet here and we had a blissful day.
