Happiness Is The Road
We were sad to leave Sydney this morning as we've had such a good time here but we'll be back soon enough. We left the camp site just before 10 with the intention of driving as far as Orange. Tom Tom stated that it should take three and a half hours. Our plan over Easter was to do an inland loop around the Orange area and then head back to Sydney via the Blue Mountains after all the Easter business and mayhem is over. The traffic coming out of Sydney was very very busy but it was moving okay until we hit the junction for the M4 motorway. We queued to join the motorway and had to put up with all the arrogant ********s in BMW's ignoring the queue and pushing in. Some things are just like the UK. What makes these tossers think that they're better than everyone else and that therefore they don't have to queue?! Eventually we got on the motorway and saw signs that there had been an accident further up. This was nose to tail stop start traffic and apart from the glorious weather was just like being on the M60 in Manchester! We queued for about half an hour before the traffic flowed okay again. A truck had rear ended a taxi and I hope that everybody was okay and not hurt. The traffic today was the busiest I have seen since getting to Australia and probably due to the great Easter getaway. The motorway took us out of the Sydney Metropolitan area and then we followed the road through the Blue Mountains area. This is an area of immense natural beauty but we didn't stop here today. We will take in the majesty of this area when we come back through in a few days. As time was getting on now we decided not to go as far as Orange and instead chose a camp site out of the Camps guide at Lake Lyell. It sounded like it would be a nice spot. As we needed some food supplies we stopped at a Coles supermarket at Lithgow on the way. This appeared to be a real hill billy place and we could have been forgiven for thinking that we were in Tasmania. Coles was full of weird looking people and the woman on the checkout, Sue according to her badge, was one of the rudest and most miserable women we have come across. Her badge might as well have said 'f**ck off I hate you'! After this horrible encounter with this rude woman we tried to buy a loaf of sourdough bread from the Bakers Delight shop opposite Coles. I stepped up to the counter and suddenly from my right a most grotesque creature appeared. She mumbled something incoherent. I asked for a loaf of sourdough. She mumbled something incoherent. We left none the wiser and without any bread. We got back to the camper swiftly and got out of this place. It took us only about 20 minutes from here to get to Lake Lyell. The camp site was right on the lake's edge and looked really nice. We managed to get a spot right beside the lake. The camping area was very spread out amongst trees and the sites were very private. We chilled for the rest of the day and took in the beautiful lake view. On the way to the amenities later I spotted a couple of kangaroos in the bush. One of them had a really cute white nose. Unfortunately they hopped off before I got chance to take a photo.
