Happiness Is The Road
We decided not to have breakfast at the camp site as we didn't want to be stared at. We drove to the Orange Botanic Gardens and had breakfast in the car park there. After brekky we had a mooch around the gardens. We were watching the ducks go about their business placidly and quietly when a couple of obnoxious kids walked past. Their parents were quite a way ahead and didn't notice as the young lad, aged about 8, picked up a load of stones and hurled them at the poor ducks. His younger sister did the same. Laughing he said 'I've hit a duck' and then they ran off. Their parents seemed oblivious to this or simply not bothered. We were stunned. What horrible and nasty kids. This incident says as much about the parents as it does about the kids. The ducks were now out of the water and had gone to hide. Can't say I blame them, the poor loves. After this we went to Woolworths to get some food. Orange has not lived up to it's name as the colour orange has not been used enough around the place. It was even difficult to find oranges to buy in Woolworths. Of all the Woolworths in Australia this one amazingly had the least oranges! When we were in the car park packing our stuff away into the fridge a lovely jolly woman came over. She was handing out leaflets and doing a petition against a new McDonalds being opened. I told her we were travelling but that I thought that McDonalds were a nasty evil corporation intent on poisoning the population. She said that she completely agreed with this but couldn't say it! We took a photo of me with an orange in orange and then we set off for Canowindra where we intended to stay the night. The roads there were very quiet and the scenery was great. The country here was very vast and open. The camp site was in a nice spot and extremely good value at $19.50. It was a council run site and these always seem to be good. The sign at the entrance said to find a spot so we did and settled down for the rest of the day. Jay decided to make a jelly. She mixed one up with apricots, natural juice and gelatine. Our jelly was 100% sugar free. There's no need for sugar when it can be sweetened with juice. Why are all shop bought jellies pumped full of sugar? When the jelly was made Jay was bending over to put it in the fridge when the site caretaker came round to collect our money. So the first sight the caretaker had of us was Jay's ****! He was a bit rough and ready but a really nice guy. He even called back later on with a watermelon and a butternut squash for us from his farm. He wasn't greeted by Jay's **** this time! We had a lovely tea and really enjoyed the yummy jelly.
