We're in Melk and I thought I'd share the view from our dinner table with you.
Yesterday we spent half the day wandering around Linz before pedaling off Into a stiff headwind. The wind became stronger and our pedaling became weaker as we faced the heat of the day which here peaks about 4.00 pm. Nevertheless we made about 80 km for the afternoon. Furthermore Sandi is now very adept at slipstreaming.
Yesterday we seemed to be passing through an even more beautiful stretch of the Donau, with steep banks, castles, churches and old stone bridges visible from our bike path. We stopped for dinner at Rudy's Pirate kneipe-an old boat secured to steel poles and serving as a floating restaurant. After dinner we rode on 8 km to Willersbach where we used the tent for the first tome this trip.
Today we have covered much less distance, after realizing we needed to slow down a bit - we are already two thirds of the way to Vienna from Passau.
The highlight of today's journey was undoubtedly our accidental visit to the birthplace and exhibition of works of the artist Oscar Kokoscha. The lovely Ursula provided us with a most informative introduction to the current exhibition, all in perfect English.
As I mentioned above, we are in Melk this evening and will be camping in the tent again right on the riverbank.
Tomorrow we plan to have a look around town before heading out into the Wachau wine region. See you soon.
