Hello from Linz, Austria. I have now ridden my bicycle approximately 250 km across Europe and am feeling tired this morning. If i sit here and blog I don't have to ride so here goes. The Danube has a very smooth bike path most of the way and the views along and from the valley are green and beautiful. We camped the first night in Austria at a dairy farm with a hydro electric generator next door. During the night A Wind storm caused a tree to fall on their Goat pen and by morning the goats were looking a bit crook from trying to eat all of the half ripe Fruit before the farmer removed their (literal) windfall. together with the Other guests at the farm we were invaded by the Neustidt moped Club, about 25 old blokes on Puch 50 cc mopeds out for a club run along the bike path. They even brought a band (accordion) along to entertain is all.
I had promised Sandi we would only be riding on flat ground but it so happened the first km out of Passau was almost straight up. We had to push and carry the bikes up to the castle lookout but what a view! Well worth the climb. Oh, and the 15 km detour as we took the wrong turn back to the Donauradweg - oops.
Yesterday's ride into Linz from the border (which you don't really notice) was all flat and much of it was alongside the river. In fact three times we ended up on the river as from time to time the path peters out and you have to ferry across to the other bank. We took the soft option on the first ferry and caught a ride for about 4 km through the schlogen s bend.
The distance we rode yesterday was roughly 65 km and seemed to be enough for my wife. Check out the pic of her sitting on the wall as we arrived at Linz.
Today is windy and pretty warm. We've visited the art electronics museum, wandered around town a bit, even done the blog. We really can't put it off much longer so better climb back on the treadlies. See you soon.
