We love Munich! We're having a blast here. The hostel is great - by far the best one yet. It's nice to stay somewhere relatively comfortable, warm, and safe!
The night we got in we headed to the restaurant serving beer from the local monk's brewery. We had the best waiter and the food was amazing! The beer was the best on trip so far. Kaitlin discovered spatzel....a German pasta kind of thing....and is totally addicted!
The hostel offers free walking tours of the city, so we decided to hop on one the next morning, thinking it would just give us a nice intro to the city. The tour turned out to be phenomenal!! One of the best tours of anything that either of us have ever been on, and it was free! The tour guide was great....gave us tons of information about the city, its history, and where to go and what to see....and he was hilarious! Great way to spend the morning.
For lunch we decided to eat like the locals and had spicy wurst sandwiches (spicy sausages with mustard on rolls) and enormous beers. Surprisingly delicious! As many of you know, Sean is not exactly adventurous when it comes to food, but he has been trying absolutely everything!! And liking most of it, too!
After lunch we headed to a museum....we can't remember the name right now....but it was an art museum that is listed in the book "1000 Places to See Before You Die" so we wanted to check it out. Lots of great paintings....our favorites were the ones of Venice. Beautiful!
That night we went to Hofbrauaus....the most famous beer hall in the world. It supposedly has seating for up to 8,000 people! It was packed, but we were lucky enough to snag a great table in the corner so we could watch everything. The beer is served in the traditional liter mugs, and there is a LOT of beer in a liter! The traditional oompah band was playing, with the guys in lederhosen. The whole experience was great.
Walking back to the hostel that night, we stopped to listen to a guy playing the guitar and singing Beatles tunes. We ended up listening to him for an hour! There was a whole crowd there and he was such a great entertainer....really, really funny and played great songs. It was a perfect end to a great day.
