Ubud is a small town in the middle of Bali. We met up with Elena, Holly and Sophie again on the way over there and didn't actually get to Ubud until the evening. We managed to find a fairly decent place to stay and all 5 of us were in the same room, sharing 2 double beds which we pushed together. The first night we just went out for dinner and a couple of drinks in a cool bar with live music.

Our full day in Ubud began with a well deserved lie in. We got some breakfast and then found somewhere to rent some motorbikes (or scooters as people have been calling them). We biked over to the 'Elephant Caves', the name is pretty decieving, there are no elephants and one disappointing cave. It's basically just a couple of temples. We saw a sign to a jungle temple and decided to follow that route. We did a bit of a trek, a lighter version of the one we did in the Cameron Highlands, but still something that we probably should have had footwear other than flip flops for. After crossing a rickety bridge, composed of just 5 bamboo sticks bundled together over a fast-running river with lots of sharp rocks, we ended up in a beautiful place with a bit of a waterfall where you could just sit for ages. I'm not sure if we actually saw the temple or not though. The rocks got too big for us to go over them, and it was a little disappointing in the fact that we weren't able to swim there.

We made our way back, got onto our bikes and headed to a Lonely Planet recommended destination nearby, where there were 'amazing carvings' on the walls of this place. It was lucky that we managed to get a discounted entrance fee because it was rubbish. There were carvings on a wall, but they weren't anything special. Again, it was back on the bikes and we stopped off at a market before heading back. That day I spent the equivalent of 50p on parking- amazing.

We spent a while walking around looking for somewhere to have dinner- Ubud is pretty expensive, for Asia at least and they all add 15% for tax and service, so we had to go around asking for that to be taken off. Despite the ridiculous number of staff, service in the restaurant was terrible and we ended up spending most of the night in the restaurant garden.

The next day me and Grace got on a bus to Kuta, leaving the others in Ubud for an extra day.
