First impressions of Jakarta weren't great. We got there late, got lost walking around trying to find a cheap hostel and then ended up staying in a really scummy place. Possibly the worst of everywhere we've been- There wasn't even a shower. Literally just a toilet, which you had to flush yourself.
Our day in Jakarta was a bit better, aside from getting pickpocketed and losing my camera and with it 3 weeks of pictures which I hadn't been able to upload yet. I'm going to find a winning lottery ticket on the floor soon, just to balance out all the bad luck. We moved into a new hostel, which had a working shower and all other basic facilities you would expect. We met up with Beni, who lives in Jakarta and got a bit of a tour of the city. It's not really a place for tourists but we went to the Old Town and had a look around. As it was a public holiday there were loads of people about, and this is where disaster struck, but once it's gone, it's gone so we carried on. We walked around a nice park and saw the National Monument, we were too late to go up it though, where you can get really cool views of the city. We ended up in a bar and had our first Bintangs- it's so much better than the cheap Thai beer, Chang!
The next day we were on the move again, we were going to get a bus to Bali but found that it's cheaper to fly so headed over to the airport. We had to wait for ages for our flight as it was delayed but eventually ended up on Bali.
