So I left Bangkok, not really knowing what I was doing!
I'm just completely confused. I have become so indecisive. Everytime I think I know what I want to do, I change my mind a million times over?
On the way up here I made some brilliant friends. They listened to me while I got a lot of things off my chest. So we are going to spend a few days together... help me try and start getting my head straight
I'm only going to spend a few nights here. There is just so much to do I'll never have enough time to do it all.
I covered most of the city on my first day. Emily and I took a free map from the T.A.T. (Tourist Association of Thailand). We covered all 32 tourist hot spots... from Wat Thang Leung... to the UnIrish Pub... obviously I did not want to go in and have a couple of ice cold beverages, but the guide told us to! Over half way through, the other guys from the bus woke up, and joined us! One big happy family, trapsing along the path, zigzaging across the city - there is no real logic to the guided tour!
The following day we hired bikes. I thought I had the whole city imprinted on my brain. With my degree in Geography, Emily was happy to follow as we cycled off to the zoo. Unfortunately, I'd pictured the map rotated 90 degress counterclockwise. We cycled 15k northwest, when we really needed to be going northeast. Thankfully we were cycling along the motorway that orbits the city! Due to the slight detour, Emily headed back into town, and I hooked up with 3 canadian chaps and aussie girl who were in the zoo. Fantastic... feeding monkeys and ostrich... and watching penguins on the equator!
Had a bit of a session that evening. I made friends with an american expat who has set up 2 bars in ChangMai... both called the ChangMai Saloon! So he treated us all to a few cocktails and such like. There are loads of canadians here... including 3 completely hammered girls... one with a chipped tooth, one with a cut foot... and the other laughing at the state of her friends! They're heading in the same direction as me (I'm going to Laos at some point!) so will meet them a few more times in the next few weeks!
That goes the same for the 2 chaps from Bangkok, Skinny and Ivan. Great blokes, just as indecisive as me about where to go, but they have to be in some yoga place 2 weeks from now... I'm definitely not heading there though... I didn't come 10000 miles to do stretches!!
So I have decided to travel using a coin... heads or tails! They took me under their wing in Bangkok, and have said they'll come with me for the first few days, as a bit of moral support!
The coin is brilliant.... Especially in the situation I am in! Firstly the guys in the bar thought it was hilarious, so that boosted my self esteem... you know I hate being the centre of attention! I was deciding everything... stay in Chang mai or leave for Laos (leave)... leave in 12 hours or 36 (12).... Allowed to look in my Lonely Planet or not (not)... another beer, or pack (it was another beer!)... pack tonight or in morning (morning).... tuktuk home or rent a bicycle (yes i rented another bike!).... kebab/burger/some kind meat or not (not) etcSo off to Laos tomorrow.. I really wanted to go on an elephant trek, and go to Pai, but the coin says no! I'll be staying on the border, either Chang Khong (Thailand) or Huay Xai (Laos side)! The coin says Chang Khong!
