Sunday Hang-outs, Markets & This & That!! Today I have organized to meet-up with Dana again and explore a bit more of Paramaribo. At around 10am Elly and her sister headed to church so I took the bus into the city and met Dana near the central market. We had planned to go to Nieuw Amsterdam with some of Dana's friends but after a late night they were all still sleeping and wanted to go later in afternoon. So instead we went and checked out some of Paramaribo's many Sunday markets; the first of which was the Chinese market. Chinese markets are always full of weird and interesting things and this market was no different with many pig tail dishes, roast duck heads, fungus, mushrooms, strange vegetables, fried doughs, dumplings and anything else you can imagine. The next stop was the Javanese market where they were selling all kinds of fruits, vegetables, snacks and ready to go foods, although I wanted to try some of the interesting looking snacks I couldn't as my stomach was giving me hell after a deep fried peanut pancake thing I had eaten for breakfast. It was nice just wandering around observing all the unique foods and watching people - it's a very family outing to go to the markets on Sundays. As we had nothing else to do we then headed to the zoo which was surrounded by a nice Forrest and walked around the Forrest for an hour or so just chatting and enjoying the nature. Still with many hours to kill we drive to the riverside and sat and ate lunch (only myself as Dana had just started Ramadan yesterday). Down at the riverside there are a few huge hotels so we managed to sneak into one and make our way out to a private pier just for hotel guests with a beautiful gazebo where we spent the rest of the afternoon chatting and practicing yoga. In the end the trip to Nieuw Amsterdam got cancelled so Dana took me out to the mall before dropping me back at Elly's. Dana has become a good friend and after one last photo together we agreed to travel together to one of the Carribean islands later in the year. Dana also brought me a wonderful leaving gift of her favorite spicy peanut salsa that I can not wait to try. Elly and the rest of the family were all home watching movies so I offered to make dinner for Elly as she had kindly made me lunch the other day. I packed my things, went to the supermarket for some Veges and then made a Chicken stir-fry with vegetables and peanut sause - it turned out quite well but when I asked Elly if she enjoyed I could tell she didn't haha. She told me it was ok but no worries I know she likes salty and fatty food but I cook more healthy. Once again the house was full of Mosquitos, steaming hot and I would struggle to sleep a wink again - specially seen I needed to be up at 3am for my trip to Guyana.
