Robinson Island!! A 3am wake-up and a quick rush to the island style bathroom had me remembering why I don't drink too often. I managed to have a very peaceful nights sleep lastnight and didn't get out of bed until after 6:30am. People had started to rise and by 8am the horn was sounded and breakfast was served. Breakfast was a fried egg, some bread and instant coffee - nothing overly flash but certainly did the trick for a quick and semi-nutritious breakfast. After breakfast and another coffee I sat around chatting with Carlos (our friend from Colombia) who is not only an incredibly interesting guy but very knowledgable on all things tech and South America. As the sun was out I went for a wonder around the island taking some snaps of the beautiful Robinson Island. Marion came and joined me and we had the bright idea of trying to get a coconut which proved far more difficult then we had initially imagined. I managed to craft this crude pole and lasso device which saw us with 2 or 3 giant coconuts that we smashed open with rocks. The coconut water was delicious and the coconut meat: out of this world. We ate ourselfs silly on coconut meat and then headed back to the camp to share the remainder with the rest of the group. It wasn't long later and lunch was served: smoked Mackeral and salad again. After lunch we had organized to go with The Captain and a few others out on their boat to get some crab and lobster. The boat ride out to the reef was breath-taking: passing beautifully shaped islands and gliding through crystal clear waters. Unfortunately I hadn't hired a snorkel and goggle so after jumping in for a quick swim I decided to just sit and sun bake on the boat whilst the others snorkeled. The guys came back with a giant sack full of crabs, lobster and fish and just as they were all getting back in the boat one of them saw a shark. For the others the shark meant scurrying out of the water so I borrowed a snorkel and goggle and dived in: with some luck I got to see the beautiful shark (non dangerous) which was about 2 meters long and was a beautiful green colour. Seeing the shark made me both nervous and excited and i realized I would like to do more diving when I travel and explore the underwater world. We stopped at another reef on the way back to our island and went spearing fish and ended up getting a nice sized octopus. Arriving back at the island we went back to relax mode before joining our new friends again for beers and rum. Dinner was served and what a treat it was tonight with fresh lobster and crab - basically it had just been boiled and the majority of the group didn't like it. I loved every mouthful and eating seafood like this; fresh from the sea made me think of home. I ended up with about 3 extra plates of lobster and crab as the others couldn't stomach it. After dinner we headed down to the beach and sat once again drinking beers/rum, enjoying the scenery and exchanging stories. Life doesn't get any better then this and I have found myself really switching off and relaxing here; something I usually find incredibly difficult.
