Goodbye Guyana!!
I think my 5 days here in Georgetown was just enough, I may have not got to do the famous Kaiteur Falls tour like I had anticipated but I got a feel for the city, the culture, the people and the country. It rained heavily all morning which made me nervous for to tonight's overnight van ride (20+ hours) to Lethem. The Georgetown to Lethem road is notoriously bad little alone in the middle of the wet season as it is at the moment. Nothing too eventful happened today aside from another walk along the coastal wall of Georgetown when the rain had settled and then a few hours waiting around for the tour company to come pick me up. 5pm came and like promised Guya Bruz Tours had sent a car to come collect me from Peters house. I paid the $60 for the bus and then waited at the office for the 6pm departure which turned into a 7:30pm departure. The van was full of locals and people from Lethem and when we boarded everyone had already selected their seats meaning I was stuck with a very small and uncomfortable seat. There was a very large old lady sitting next to me that insisting on keeping her bag on the seat which meant I had just half a seat with my bum hanging over the edge. I decided to say something to her and asked if she could move her bag as I didn't have any seat room - she was not happy but moved and for the rest of the journey was very angry with me and constantly elbowed me the whole way to Lethem haha - very sad old lady that I only felt sorry for. Eventually we were off but not before the driver had about 10 pickups to do around town and we didnt actually leave Georgetown until 9pm. I had no leg room a car engine crammed under my legs and a grumpy old lady to my right - this is gong to be a long night. The first few hours the road was highway and flat so easy going; we were supposed to have a dinner break but I imagine because we were so late leaving the driver didn't stop. Luckily I had brought some food but having to eat crammed up in a van and on a bumpy road was anything but fun. The road got bad very quickly going from bitumen to mud and gravel and out came the rally driver I had heard so much about. Bumps, jolts, hard breaking, accelerating and skidding became my enemies of the night eased only by my trusty iPod and the melodies of a place I would rather be. The van stopped regularly throughout the night and all of us clambered out every chance we got to stretch our legs, necks and sore sore knees. The sleeping pill helped me doze off intermittently but also left me in a dazed state every time we stopped and got out of van.
OBSERVATIONS
- Re-think my travels: plan just one country ahead
- Guya Bruz Tours minivan Georgetown - Lethem (expected 20 hours)
- Full van of Lethem locals
- The rally driver

Tim Tendick Ach, those rides. Love them and hate them... That is, love to reminisce about them, hate to actually experience them. One more moved from the former category to the latter!
Roberto Hola. Sabes la dirección para sacar boleto a lethem en la minivans. Gracias
