Long Road to Oiapoque!! As we were very late getting home lastnight both Cecile and Roberto had a bit of a sleep-in whilst I unfortunately couldn't seem to get back to sleep after arising at 7:30am. I had to work out how I was going to get to Oiapoque as lastnight I was informed the price of the car trip to Oiapoque had now gone up to $150 which was way out of my price range. The only real option was the bus which has been rumored to have been taking 48 hours instead of the normal 11 hours. With the thought of maybe having to spend 2 days on the bus I headed to the supermarket and brought food for the next 2 days just incase there will be delays. Like usual I grabbed some eggs (boiled eggs are great for keeping over few days of travel) some tinned corn/peas and some fruit - this along with all my dried fruits and nut should keep me going over a few days. When I returned to the house Roberto and Cecile were now up and made a call to the bus station for me; finding out there was just one bus going to Oiapoque tonight at 11pm and that there were only 4 tickets left and I would need to rush down to get one of the last tickets. Roberto had just gone and got some fresh Acai (this stuff is like liquid gold) and so we sat and enjoyed a bowl of Macapas finest Acai mixed with some crunchy maniocre. Luckily Roberto and Cecile have a bicycle they could let me borrow and Roberto set me up with a big wide-brim hat as the sun was now belting out the midday heat. The ride turned into one epic adventure and I think I must have sweated out 2 litres of water on the way out to the terminal. Unfortunately google maps took me to another bus terminal; one that was an additional 5km away along a very busy highway. On arrival a guy at the gate explained the terminal I needed was back towards the centre, so it was back on the bike and pedaling like hell as I worried the tickets might have all sold. With some luck I arrived at the correct station and was sold the second last bus ticket. The ride back was incredibly hot, tiring and down some very poor roads, where buses and cars were constantly whizzing past me. When I arrived back I took a cold shower and then told Roberto and Cecile about my epic adventure. At 4pm we were all going to watch the France vs Honduras game but after my big ride and still needing to pack I decided I wouldn't go and use the time to organize my things. At about 9pm Roberto and Cecile returned and kindly offered to drive me out to the bus terminal. Earlier in the day Cecile had kindly given me a compact hammock to use when I visit my next countries and so I figured this was the perfect time to give my Jacket to Roberto as I know they will be heading to the south of Brazil very soon. Roberto and Cecile took me to the bus terminal where I thanked them for their wonderful hospitality and wished them all the best on their upcoming trips to the South of Brazil and to Europe. As I sat at the bus station awaiting my 11pm bus I actually got a little sad at having to say goodbye to both Roberto and Cecile so soon. The bus was full of people and after putting my headphones in and cranking up the music I was soon fast asleep. The bus made a short stop at about 3am so I got up and stretched my legs before taking my seat again and drifting back in and out of sleep.
