This morning Sheila had to work so I relaxed a bit at the house and then went for a nice Sunday walk. For lunch we went to Sheila's sisters house again and Sheila cooked her famous bean and bacon soup whilst her brother-in-law made a stirfry rice with lastnights leftovers, the sister made a cord soufflé and I made the salad. Once again it was really mixing hanging out with the family - chatting in broken Spanish drinking Mate and preparing the food. It was about 2:30pm when we ate but it was well worth the wait with the delicious bean and bacon soup, corn soufflé, yuka, pork and beef and fried rice - I think all I am going to do in Brazil is eat. After lunch I drank some more Mate whilst everyone else went off for Siestas. Sheila's brother-in-law showed me all the different fruit trees that were growing wild in the street from avocados to mangos and other strange fruits - amazing all these wonderful fruits for free and the prices we pay in Australia - ridiculous. I decided to walk back to Sheila's in the extreme heat of the day and on the way came across an avocado tree and managed to find two huge avocados that had fallen to the ground - perfect for tonight's guacamole. In the afternoon Sheila went for a siesta whilst I surfed the Internet and prepared some things for dinner - for our last night I was going to cook Sheila and her brother an Indian soya and chicken curry and a new type of guacamole. At 6:30 though I had promised to join Sheila at her church (Spiritism - a sect of the Christian faith and one that is widely followed here in Brazil). As the service was conducted in Portuguese I didn't understand anything but Sheila was very kind and told me a bit of what was being said - in the meanwhile I had a nice day-dream. The people were very relaxed, there were no priests or symbols and the service was just conducted in a small room. After an hour and a half it was time for the interesting part - people were invited into a small dark room where members of the church conducted a very quick Raki session - it was really nice and I actually felt my body electrify and my hair stand up - as if I was overcome with static electricity. We got back to Sheila's late and I still had to cook and prepare a lot of things and in the end it took me nearlly two hours to cook dinner but when I finished and we sat and enjoyed our last meal Sheila was happy so I was happy. We finished watching the movie Her and then chatted and ate Brazilian Grotto Grotto chocolates before saying goodnight.
