Perpetuas House!! Another half decent sleep and I was up bright and early talking to my fellow Couchsurfers and saying my goodbyes to my host Sara. It was unfortunate that Sara couldn't speak English and I couldn't speak Portuguese as it was quite difficult to share any meaningful conversation. At around 9am I walked in the steaming hot sun to my new host; Perpetuas place - about a 40 minute walk into the city. Perpetua lives in a beautiful apartment complex and when she opened her door I was met with a lovely smile and a huge welcome hug. We chatted for the next two hours straight (in English) and we organized my next couple of days here in Fortaleza. When Perpetua headed to work I had a little walk around her neighborhood before heading back for a quick lunch. The temperature today must be up near 40 degrees so I waited until after 3pm before leaving the apartment again. I had heard about a local market called San Sebastián where all the locals shop and the good thing was it was only about 4kms away and so a nice little walk. Unfortunately when I arrived everything was closing but I managed to rush around and buy a few things I had been eying off; dried caju (like a peach), dried and crystallized bananas and guarana powder. I really enjoyed the market and everything was so cheap that I think I better come back again before I leave Fortaleza. After lots of walking today I was tired by the time I got back and luckily had the comfort of a beautiful home to take a shower and put my feet up. When Perpetua got back I taught her a few recipes I had learned whilst traveling and came up together with a really nice dinner of Indian curry, Thai salad and Colombian guacamole. We spent the rest of the evening chatting and figuring out a plan for my next few days here in Fortaleza. I tried to sleep but the heat here is intense and I found myself awake all night.
OBSERVATIONS:
- San Sebastián market - very cheap
- Dried and fresh Caju - delicious
- CS with Perpetua
