Jungle Lagoons & Acai!! After a much needed sleep I was up early with Amanda as Po's bus had arrived early and we needed to pick her up from the bus station. It was so nice to see Po again and she had made some friends on the bus that were also headed to Venezuela. Amanda my host was very kind and helped Po's new friends organise a taxi to Santa Elena. Amanda, Po and I then headed to the Sunday market in Boa Vista where we brought some fruits, vegetables and my favorite Brazilian drink: Acai. The market was very interesting and certainly the best and cheapest place to buy food in Brazil. We returned to Amanda's for a quick breakfast and then Amanda had a suprise for us; taking us to her favorite swimming hole. We drove just outside of the city to this Forrest/jungle and much to our suprise there was this incredible stream that let into the jungle and deep in the heart of the jungle a beautiful lagoon. We had to wade through the crystal waters to get to the lagoon and the best thing there was only 4 other people there. We met this wonderful old guy that insisted on going and getting us all beer and these 3 young Brazilian guys who were visiting Boa Vista. We chatted about life, travels, Brazil, the football and everything else inbetween and drank beer with the lovely old Brazilian guy. It was one of those days - completely unplanned, completely unexpected and wonderful in every sense - but all due to the lovely Amanda and true Brazilian hospitality. In the afternoon I walked into the city and found a bank where I could withdraw some money that I will change tomorrow into US dollars. Tonight for dinner Amanda had invited two of her friends around Valdina and Sara who have just got back from a trip to Venezuela. Po and I cooked dinner whilst we all chatted about their trip to Venezuela and got lots of good tips, contacts and information. We cooked coconut milk shrimp (that i learned to make in French Guiana) and a vegetable stir-fry and celebrated the evening with a very nice bottle of Brazilian red wine. The evening was great with good people, good food, good times many laughs and lots of lost in translation moments - only Portuguese.
OBSERVATIONS:
- Po early morning arrival
- Sunday markets - cheap Acai and huge avocado
- Igarape - jungle lagoon visit - meet many Brazilians
- Dinner with Valdina and Sara - 2 of Amanda's friends
