Waking up this morning was quite pleasant as the sun was out and already the island had started to warm up. I washed a few of my sweaty hiking clothes and then made my way to the shops to see what I could find for lunch, I picked up a few vegetables and organized to return later and the lady would boil me some eggs. The plan today is to hike a little bit more around the Inka ruins and then relax on the beach in the afternoon. I headed back to the Northern point of the island where you needed a ticket to visit the sites, I had yesterday's ticket but it was only valid for one day - however a bit of quick thinking lastnight and I was able to change the date to today's date. I was actually fairly soar today and the 40 minute walk out to the point was quite taxing and to go with that the hard to breathe altitude. It was kind of nice today as there were less people and I got a chance to have a good look around - I must say it is much better when you have other people to sightsee with. I found a nice spot to overlook the lake and sat down for my packed lunch of boiled eggs, carrot and a tomato - I know not overly interesting but life on the island is very simple. Having nothing else to really do and plenty of time on my hands I decided to have a nap and catch some sunshine - the sun is so intense here but the freezing wind from the lake counteracts the warmth. Observing the small village where I am staying is somewhat like looking back 500 years with no running water, pigs, sheep and other animals roaming around freely, some of the locals hard at work and the rest sitting around awaiting time to pass. I once thought of a place like this as paradise but unfortunately I need some form of stimulation and sitting around all day like all the hippies here is no longer my idea of paradise. Tomorrow I will make my way along the edge of the island (off the tourist trail) to the next village Challa and from there make my way to the largest town on the island Yumani. Later in the afternoon I went and got the old Bolivian lady to boil some eggs for me and sussed out what else I could get for dinner. Unfortunately as we are on an island everything needs to be boated out here hence the high prices, I still can't justify paying these extortionate prices for things and will wait till I am back on the mainland to treat myself to some nice dinners. There doesn't seem to be so many people around tonight or maybe everyone is locked up inside as the freezing wind is belting straight in. Tonight the aim again is to stay warm - not such an easy task in conditions like this but I will do my best. Oh and finally the month and a half of Spanish study I did is paying off; I am still not that great at understanding locals when they talk but I can communicate at a basic level and understand Spanish writing to a certain level.
