Whitsunday Islands
7th - 11th August
Before linking up with the Oz Experience, we spent the morning at the aquarium in Townsville. It boasts to hold the largest living coral reef and put us in the mood for snorkelling around the Whitsunday Islands. Whislt at Maggies, we booked a 3 day 2 night sailing trip on a boat recommended to us by a random on a bus! However our luck was most definitely in, the boat was being repaired and a replacement had been laid on... only one of the most luxurious tallships in the region, the Pacific Sunrise!
The bus got us into Airlie Beach (without a beach!) where we spent the night before embarking on our cruise of the Whitsunday Islands. The ship had just had a $1m overhaul and was exemplary, much bigger than any other we had seen, spread over 3 levels, with only 17 guests all in private ensuite rooms and 6 crew to look after us! Even more of a bonus was that all the passengers were really nice and we all got on well. We were constantly fed with gourmet food, making it a challenge to float when snorkelling around the reef! We visited Whitehaven beach, with the whitest powder sand in the world, which was perfect bar the vast number of tourists flocking to see it! We also did a few bushwalks, revealing some incredible of the Whitsundays. At the end of the trip nobody wanted to leave the floating paradise we'd grown acustomed to.
