After a 15 hour flight with a refuelling in Bangkok we arrived in Dubai at 6:30 in the morning. When we arrived at the hotel it was too early to check in but they managed to get our room ready within an hour. We had a quick shower and then set off to sort out tickets for the hop on hop off bus.
We set off on the red route round the city and then transferred to the blue
route which went to The Palms. Dubai has lots of skyscrapers some of which have been very tastefully designed.
We travelled quite a distance and saw the famous 7 star hotel that looks like a sail and then went right to the end of the Palms which is reclaimed land designed like a palm tree although you cannot see this unless you fly over it. It costs millions to live in a house here in but you are given a free car on completion of the sale.
Back in the city we alight at the Dubai Mall and make our way to the Burg Kalifa the tallest building in the world. We payed an awful lot of money to be fast tracked up to the 148th floor where we had drinks and nibbles in the lounge at the top. Most people only go to 124th floor. It was great and the views were spectacular although it was very clear that Dubai was built in the middle of a desert. We looked around this area and then went back to our hotel which is on Dubai Creek.
Once it was dark and the dhows on the creek put their lights on it looked super so we went for a walk to take a look. Most of them are floating restaurants now. We also managed to find the spice souk. There were bags and bags of saffron that we pay a small fortune for at home .
Tomorrow is our last day before we return to the cold and grey.
