Mick and I set off on our own today and drove to Adelaide city and had a stroll by the river. The River Torrens is nothing like the Swan River in Perth! But we did a lot of black swans and even a family with 5 cute grey cygnets.
Leaving Adelaide we headed toward Port Adelaide, not a very attractive area, and then onto Garden island. Here there are mangrove swamps which provide a safe haven for many fish. We also saw a lone dolphin breaking the surface every now and again in the sheltered water.
We retraced our steps and drove to the coast west of Adelaide and stopped at a place called Semaphore. The basic structure of the buildings was old and they had a charm to them even though many of them are now shops. The beaches along this stretch of coastline consist of the beautiful soft whits sand, shallow waters and turquoise sea. I could count on my fingers the number of people sitting on the beach!!
We followed the coast road all the way down to Grange and then turned back toward the city.
For those of you who know something about cricket Sir Don Bradman used to live just round the corner from my friend and their is a commemorative plaque on the stand in the park opposite.
Tonight we are being taken out for dinner and Mick has to wear long trousers!! Good job I made him bring some out to Australia!
