So after an unexpected delay and 8 days of waiting at home, I'm finally in south africa. I'm staying with a girl called Vicky in an apartment not far from both the town centre and table mountain. So far there are 5 of us doing the same project - us 2 and 3 boys who live together in a house not far from us. Every night we go to theirs and have a meal together with our 2 project leaders.
Yesterday (my first day) i went on a sightseeing bus to see all the main sights and roughly get my bearings around cape town. Its hard to get lost as you can always find your position according to table mountain! In the evening we had a bbq, and then went into town to an Irish pub for a few drinks. I've got a couple more days to do touristy stuff as today and tomorrow are a public holiday so no school - today we are all going to table mountain and possibly hiring mountain bikes...! Sounds interesting if nothing else. I'll be sure to upload some pics from up top as the view over cape town will be amazing!
The school work sounds really good, its working with a township primary school in the mornings and then moving on to a high school in the afternoon. I think i've been assigned netball and girls football, but i said i'm happy to help out doing whatever. Apparently the kids are all really nice, naughty at first but as long as you show them you won't let them get away with it then they will respect you and listen. Hopefully. I guess i'll find out on wednesday! For now i'm gonna go and enjoy the sunshine whilst it last as the weather is supposed to be turning to winter very quickly :(
