Hi everyone! Well this is my last blog entry from Melbourne as I am leaving tomorrow to do a 3 day tour of the Great Ocean Road before I arrive in Adelaide. Went to Phillip Island yesterday and it was so brilliant!!! Started the tour at yet another wildlife park ( I never thought I would be sick of the sight of kangaroos but after the 1000th one the excitement is lost!) We arrived on Phillip Island in the afternoon and it was much more scenic than I was expecting. The main beach was so beautiful and I went exploring in the 38 degree heat with a friendly Canadian I met. We then went to see Nobbies Rock and Seal Rock which were again really stunning. There were loads of little penguins beside the walkway and they were just so cute. The sun was going down and we went to watch the penguin parade. The sea was so pretty and it was a shame that we weren't allowed to take photos as the sky was pink. The experience was ruined slightly by an American lady behind us who was complaining the whole time that the peguins were late and that they were very slow coming out of the water!! It was so amazing to watch, as it was dark and you could eventually make out the shape of a tint penguin emerging from the water. It would come out, have a look around and then go back in. Then he could come out again with his friends and when they were brave enough they would make there way along the beach. It was so cute as they would stick together and almost looked as if they were holding wings! Occasionally a noisy tourist would scare then back into the sea and their was one very brave one who went alone. It was one of the most beautiful things I have seen and it was a shame that other noisy tourists had to be there with me! I was disappointed that there weren't more penguins as we were told that abou 1500 come out but that it takes until 2am and our coach left at 10pm - I could have stayed and watched them all night!
Today had a very hot and sweaty last day in Melbourne - it was 41 degrees!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was planning on going to watch the tennis but as it was so ridiculously hot I went to Federation Square, sat in the shade and watched the Serena Williams match on the big screen while drinking gallons and sweating more than I ever thought possible. Will be sad to leave Melbourne but definitely ready to move on, as I've had enough of the hostel - walked in to my room yesterday to find a couple having sex in the bunk above mine - nice! I love backpacking!!!! Will write again when I get to Adelaide xxxxxxx
