Hi everyone! I have just finished the most amazing 3 day trip from Melbourne to Adelaide - it was absolutely brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!! The group was really nice, very mixed nationalities and ages and I made friends with a really lovely English guy who had actually been staying at my hostel in Melbourne for a week and we hadn't spoken! We were inseperable for the whole trip (nothing like that he is too young for me!) and had such a laugh. There was also a crazy Italian lady who provided us with great entertainment as she was completely mad. On the first day we were picked up ridiculously early and headed towards the Great Ocean Road. We stopped at a beautiful beach along the way, and had a well earned swim as it was 43 degrees!! It was so hot it felt like having your head in an oven you just couldn't breathe! Had shark (flake) and chips for lunch and it tasted really nice actually! The Great Ocean Road was absolutely stunning and the views were amazing (have put my photos on facebook!) We stopped along the way to see some wild koalas which was so much better than seeing them at a wildlife park. We then went on a treetop walk which was also very pretty (yet more boring photos!) before arriving at our hostel for the night in a place called Princetown whiich had 17 residents and the entire town consisted of all the essentials - a cafe, restaurant and pub! After dinner we went to watch the sunset over the 12 Apostles, which was absolutely beautiful. The evening ended with a visit to the local pub - well it would have been rude not to! A group of us slept outside under the stars as it was so hot in the dorms.
The following morning we woke up at 5! We then left the Great Ocean Road and joined Shipwreck Road. The day began visiting several rock formations (sounds very boring but for some reason they really weren't!) and went to where a shipwreck, the Loch Ard crashed years ago. This was only interesting as we were told a really sweet true story about the only 2 survivors on the boat who fell in love - a bit like Titanic and this one didn't have a happy ending either! Visited another beach and went exploring in the rock pools. Then came the highlight of the trip - a helicopter ride!!!!!!!!! It was bloody brilliant!!! I got to sit in the front seat and we went over the sea and over the 12 Apolstles. The views were amazing and it was so much fun!! Arrived at the Grampians National Park in the afternoon which was so nice although the heat was unbearable. After dinner we went to watch the wild kangaroos outside our hostel.
Woke up even earlier the following day to do a 3 hour hike up the Pynnacles before it got too hot. The views at the top were worth waking up for! We then went to see a waterfall which was ok but not worth the 260 steps!! and we werent allowed to swim there! We left the Grampians after lunch and had a very long and sweaty journey to Adelaide and arrived there last night.
Well I am now in Adelaide and what everyone said about it being the dullest city in Australia is absolutely true! I have been exploring today and there really is nothing to see!! I even went on a tram from one end of the city to the other and as the only thing to see on route was a jam factory (seriously!) I decided to go shopping instead!!! I'm going out with my friend tonight to see if being drunk will help me like the city more but I'm not holding out much hope! Can't believe I leave Oz tomorrow for Fiji!!!! I am really excited but will be sad to leave Australia xxx
