Hi everyone! Well having sucessfully been a sailor for a couple of days I have now turned my hand to being a cowgirl!!!
Left Airlie Beach very early yesteday morning and had a long drive to Kroombit Cattle Station. Arrived just in time for a steak dinner yum! The Oz Experience buses had decided on a pajama party theme, which turned into the men cross dressing in various wigs and dresses provided by the farm (gutted my camera battery died!!) After dinner the head cowboy Alan showed us how to crack a whip, and what followed was the most bizarre thing I have ever seen - men in dresses wearing safety goggles standing on a milk crate with a whip in hand - hilarious!!!!!!!!!!! Again wish I had photographic evidence but I think the images will remain with me forever (shudder!) I was actually not too bad at it having whipped myself a few times I managed to make it crack! This was followed by the bucking broncho which again was interesting watching men hitch up their dresses (refusing to take their wigs off before putting on their helmets). I was awful at this and only lasted a few seconds!
This morning after another early start (I am now waking up involuntarily at 6am) I fired a shotgun at clay pigeons and managed to hit 1 out of 5 which I think was very impressive! We then had a goat rodeo which involved a team of 3 grabbing a goat by the horns, pulling him onto one side and then pretending to brand them. Didn't really enjoy this very much as it was not what I was expecting with a rodeo. We then went mustering (herding) goats and it was BRILLIANT!! Having only been on a horse once and wearing flip flops I was given a black horse called Ghost and it didn't start well when I mounted the horse and went straight over the other side and was hanging upside down with everyone laughing and I couldn't get back up! We then went and collected the goats from the pen and shouting 'hey yup yup' (official goat language) we had to round them up and take them across the fields. After mastering steering I even managed to trot and was even trusted at the back of the group. Surprisingly no goats (or horses) were lost and we all made it back safely.
Have just had another long bus journey and have now arrived at Hervey Bay. We are off on a 2 night self drive 4x4 adventure tomorrow around Fraser Island which I am really looking forward to. Will write again when I get back xxx
