Hmmmm... I woke up feeling a little worse for wear this morning. I chatted to Gaz and still didn't quite know what to do with myself. I lolled around for a while and packed eventually to check out at 11am.
It was a lovely sunny day in Hobart and I had a few hours to kill before my plane left. I decided to visit the Female Factory, a world heritage site and one of five female prisons for convicts. I couldn't face the bus, so I walked along the Hobart Rivulet (posh word for brook or teeny stream) path out to the site. I had a low blood sugar moment and had to take a detour to get a bottle of coke and a chicken, bacon and avo sarnie. I found a bench in a Korean memorial garden to refuel. I found another bench near a huge church along the path and slept for about 45mins! I eventually reached the Female Factory and spent just over half an hour looking around. I still wasn't feeling on top of the world so I did a self guided tour. I think in would have learnt more if is done one of the tours but I just couldn't face it! The site was effectively 3 remaining yards with a building or two. It had been 'renovated' nicely so you could appreciate the original layout and how cramped it must have been for the women and their children. It was very sad, especially when lots of them were there for very minor or even unknown crimes!
I strolled back in the sunshine into town and got an 'Au pear' juice and superfood salad in an attempt to give my body some good stuff. I meandered back through the city for the last time, picked up a shuttle bus from my hotel and went to the airport. I flew with Virgin Australia to Sydney Domestic where I was met by my friend Helen, an orthodontist who I studied with in Liverpool. She drove me to her house in the Sydney suburb of a Lilyfield, where I said hello to Duncan (husband) and met her two gorgeous children for the first time. William is 3 and Charlotte is nearly 1. We had a lovely meal and a good catch up after 4 years of not seeing one another!
