I woke up early having had a reasonable sleep, and decided to go for a walk. I was up and out before 7am and enjoyed my walk through the town of Victor Harbor, across the bridge to Granite Island. I circumnavigated the island, whilst taking in the scenery which glowed with the early morning sunlight. I slipped on the way back and smacked a big toe against the tramlines, which is used to carry passengers by horse drawn tram to the island. I did well not to cry, but I think I scared a gull somewhat. I addressed the toenail damage on my return, packed my bags and joined Donks for a fab brekkie al fresco!
We packed the car for our last leg of our road trip. Our first stop of the day was at the information centre in McLaren Vale. We stopped at the Shingleback Cellar Door and discovered that the grumpy lizard we had seen on our walk the previous day was a Shingleback. We also discovered that, although Donks loves her Sav Blanc, she quite liked some of the lightly oaked Chardonnay, which I liked a lot. I became designated driver and spent lots of time sniffing and having very small tasters. We also enjoyed the sparkling Shiraz and the fortified vintage Shiraz.
Happy that I'd not had too much before 11am....we headed north. Next stop Hove, which was on the road just after Brighton! I dropped Lesley on Hove beach and walked up to a swimwear shop called Beachpool. In the interim, we'd both (separately) visited an automatic loo that talked to us and played relaxing piano music!
My swimwear trip was successful and for the first time ever I enjoyed the experience! I was served by a fab lady who looked after me very well. The only problem was that I had to buy 2 bikinis as I couldn't chose between them! Hmmm... Packing my bags is going to get interesting.
I returned to the beach with some cold drinks and soon we were back on the road. We left Alma at Adelaide airport after a bit of confusion as we hadn't been given details re returning the car. However, we were soon on our way into Adelaide with a very amusing taxi driver whose family name was Bull! He was telling us all about his brother who had been to a town on the English/Scottish border to trace the family back to the 1500's. His family came to Aus on the second ship.
The adabco boutique apartments provide us with lovely accommodation and good shared kitchens. I picked up in the fact that today is Chinese New Year, so after freshening up we headed out in 42 degree heat to china town (around 5pm). We were met by a great pavement drawing of a horse, it is the year of the horse, and the hustle and bustle that normally comes with such street parties. There were stalls and a stage with various performances, dragons, firecrackers, the works! We ate at the East taste restaurant on Gouger Street, sitting at a table on the street, watching the crazy Saturday night crowd drifting by. What a quirky place! The food was delicious and I washed mine down with a beer.
We mooched for quite some time before the early start, driving and heat caught up with us. On the way home we both experienced 'genuine Taiwanese Bubble Tea' for the first time. Mine was a mango one and was a yummy blend of mango flavoured milky tea served with a very wide bore straw which allowed you to suck the chewy 'bubbles' from the bottom of the cup. We spent a lot of our walk home guessing what these bubbles were but neither of us guessed that it was tapioca!
