We knew we'd arrived in the ski-ing heartland of NZ because everything was suddenly expensive and posh and new built and not like the NZ i'd come to know at all.
Wanaka was really lovely and was obviously benefiting from a boom in the tourist industry. There's some stunning properties by the lakeside and lots of developing going on. We really liked it there although we didn't get up to much (too achey from the glacier hike). It does seem as though everything gets more expensive the further south you go here and when we got to Queenstown it all came as a bit of a shock. We couldn't afford a night out never mind horse riding or canyon jet boating as we'd hoped.
However, i briefly caught up with many of my old BUNAC buddies though who have been living and working there and enjoyed a few happy hour beers with them before bed. Qtown is certainly rocking but full of rich kids and skiers and we didn't really feel like it was our scene. It is unbelievably beautiful though.
We decided not to hang around but to get over to Christchurch asap maybe for a bit more WWOOFing before heading back to the West coast to see our old friend Stu. Yes we loved the farm that much and miss him so much we've decided to go back!

p.s. It's damn cold down there!
