Day 40 Friday 20/09 Thessaloniki 26 deg Sunny -
Enid here...Walked to pick up our hire car, itching to get to the shops that we passed on the way, but, set off on a 200odd km all day round trip. Firstly to Vergina, where we saw the tomb of King Philip II 336 B.C., father of Alexander the Great. We were "blown away" by being able to see his tomb and the intact gold, silver plus bronze, iron, leather, pottery artefacts from this era found in his tomb. We took the scenic route through Veria and Edessa and ended at Pella the birthplace of Alexander the Great 356 B.C. Back in Thessaloniki we stocked up on goodies for our car journey through Greece. After dinner we strolled to a huge square at the waterfront, on the way back we encountered a very large demonstration marching towards the square we had just left, with police and other services trying to contain it, bit scary, headed home for a nightcap of Ouzo.
