Day 45 Wednesday 25/09 Delphi > Nafplion Sunny 28 deg -
Judy here...Leaving Mount Parnassus and Delphi, our drive today was very picturesque with the road skirting the Gulf of Corinth and the mountains ever present. We crossed from central Greece to the Pelponesse via the Rio AntiRio suspension bridge, 2,252metres. We headed for Diakopto and the rack railway. The 38km train journey through the Vouralkos Gorge to Kalavryti was delightful with a top speed of about 35kph and on the return journey I sat in the cabin with the train driver who was eager to show me all the sights to photograph. This is probably one of the few trains running outside of Athens. Nafplion is located on the water and is a picture perfect fishing village. We were located in the old town and close to wonderful seafood restaurants. We have passed many olive trees on the plains and sides of mountains and lots of unfinished roadwork which shows how badly the GFC hit Greece. Throughout Greece there has been much agriculture, cotton, tobacco, stone fruits, citrus, apple, cabbage and delicious tomatoes and cucmbers, as well as an abundance of flowers and the roses are in their final bloom and so perfumed.
