Friday 13th June - Friday 20th June 2008
So its Friday 13th, the camper adventures are nearly over, only got a few more days left with Adam. Today we gotta drive from Byron Bay down the coast back to Sydney where the whole journey started. We set off around 10am and began the 750km journey down south. I started the driving as Adam was fast asleep after 10mins of being on the road, the poor lad just cant stay awake! It was a nice and easy drive down and thankfully uneventful with it being friday 13th and that! We slept in the van overnight back in Coogee. God I love that place!
On Saturday Vic was flying from Cairns heading to Sydney ready for her flight home on Monday. Shes the very first girl I met in my dorm on my arrival in Australia and we remained really good mates throughout the whole journey shes a top person! So I went in to the city for 10ish to meet her whilst Adam went to do some last minute souvenir shopping. As Adam was leaving tomorrow and Vic was here we needed somewhere to sleep as we couldnt all fit in the van, so along came Neil, one of the guys I also met in Coogee on my first week. He had his own crib in Syndey so we were able to crash at his that night.
During the afternoon I drove to Neils with Vic and then headed back into the city to buy some new trainers as I wrecked the ones I had, so went to Paddys Market to buy myself a pair of pumps for $25 - bargain! We met up with Adam then and went to buy some tickets for the Aussie Rules game which was being played in Sydney that evening. Aussie rules is basically a home grown sport which is abit like rugby but softer. It quite a good sport actually! So we got free transport to the stadium, free members hats and a beer for $30 which was a good deal.
The game was really good we had a quality night I ended up drunk and spilt my newly bought beer on the person sat infront of me hah whoops. Its quite strange in the stadiums though as the aussies dont get as passionate about sport as we do back home. There are no mexican waves or any wild chants so that was abit crap but stil we made a good atmosphere of it.
Later in the evening we went to the city to Side Bar which is a popular backpacker place. At the game we ended up meeting Jonny, one of the guys who was doing Oz intro at the same time as us so he came along aswel. Then later in Side bar we ended up meeting another girl who was on Oz intro at the same time aswel. There was a mexican themed that night so we got in to the swing of things there and ended up rolling in to Neils place at some ridiculous hour
Sunday was Adams last day so I drove him to the airport to bid him farewell and he was gone on to Fiji. Me and Vic went back to Coogee during the day to meet Franki, another girl that was on our Oz intro. Its like one big reuinion it was great. That evening we chilled in her hostel then crashed in some spare beds in the room. We will take anything for free
On Monday I took Vic to the airport and spent quite a few hours there as she was delayed and I had nothing to do so thought may aswel bum around. The check-in staff gave both of us a $15 voucher for her being delayed they either liked us or were thick and didnt realise I wasnt travelling. That evening I headed to Neils as I was crashing out there for the rest of the week until I got rid of the camper on Friday, and then fly to Brisbane on Saturday.
For the rest of the week I met up with Jonny and Sarah - the two people who were on the same Oz Intro. On Tuesday we headed to Darling Harbour to have a stroll and a few drinks in the bars. Its so nice in Darling harbour, especially when the sun goes down and the city sky line lights up its unbelievable - I love it!! On Wednesday we went out for a meal in the evening for a Curry. It was so nice, slightly expensive compared to Ziggys back home, but god it was good. By Thursday I was in desperate need to do some washing, it was getting the stage of wearing boxers inside out haha so yeah I thought I best sort those out. That evening I went around to Judes house - one of dads friends from back home. She cooked me a proper roast dinner! I couldnt believe it. It felt so good after all the junk I had been eating. She also provided me with plenty of booze, and I returned the favour by providing a bottle of wine for her to get wasted on lol.
Friday was my last day with the van. I was up early cleaning it out from all the dirt and general rubbish collected over the last 6 weeks. I drove little Herby back to the garage where i collected him. It felt really strange taking him back as I only felt to have had the van for 2minutes but the amount of things I have done in the van is crazy. When we picked the van up it had done 248866kms and by the time I took him back we had done 258200kms - a distance of 9334kms in 6 weeks! Driving from London - Edinburgh is 620kms, so yeah quite a fair distance.
Friday evening we went out in Sydney for my last time before returning back there in December. I headed out with Neil and Toby - he was a guy I met on Fraser Island and kept randomly bumping into him throughout the ride back down to Sydney. I had a quality last night down there its an awesome city!
