It was still raining when we awoke so we were slow to mobilise however when we did the rain was quite light. After breakfast we set off, in a refreshing light drizzle, to our next camp. We walked for about 5 hours and by the time we arrived the sun was shining. It was great to be walking and getting some exercise while taking in the natural surroundings.
The highlights were:seeing a hornbill hole, where the female had been cemented in to raise her young - I put my finger in as we could hear nothing only to have it severely nipped by a very strong beak; a stingless bees honeycomb; augur buzzard; great flowers and an imposing Man'gati warrior who was off to get his second wife looking impressive in his black, red and gold coloured adornments, shield dorbed in cow fat and spear. The only detraction was the white fat on his head attracting its own following of flies!
After lunch and siesta we went for a walk local to camp and we watched as the guys made fire to smoke out some stinging bees - but no honey as it dropped to the base of the tree! We also found tracks of elephant, lion and hyena in the river bed.
We had dinner in the mess tent and retired to bed - there was lightening around but no rain like last night.
